Dear FAIRSD Action Supporters,

We are excited to announce that the FAIRSD Action Board has voted to endorse
Toby Doeden for Governor of South Dakota in the Republican gubernatorial runoff this Tuesday, July 28!

This decision came after much prayer, thoughtful discussion, and careful review of the candidates' positions on the issues that matter most to South Dakota homeschool families. We invited each candidate to share a video message with our supporters and thoroughly considered their public statements and positions.

As the national movement toward government-funded school choice continues to grow, the future of independent homeschooling has become an increasingly important conversation here in South Dakota. We believe Toby Doeden has made the clearest commitment to protecting the independence of homeschooling. While Toby was not initially familiar with all of the unique concerns surrounding government-funded ESAs and homeschooling, he has listened thoughtfully to homeschool families throughout his campaign, and as he learned more about the importance of preserving homeschool independence, his understanding of our issues has deepened.

In a recent social media post outlining his education priorities, Toby acknowledged the concerns many homeschool families have that government funding programs can bring increased government oversight, regulations, and mandates. He has firmly stated that homeschoolers should not be encouraged to take government money and has committed to protecting the independence of homeschooling without tying our community to this type of funding. Toby pledged to preserve the educational freedoms established under SB 177, oppose unnecessary government regulation of homeschool families, and protect the independence that has made South Dakota one of the nation's strongest homeschooling communities.

We are also encouraged that his own grandchildren will be homeschooled, giving him a personal connection to our community and the values we seek to protect.

Those commitments gave our board confidence that Toby Doeden is the candidate best positioned to defend the educational freedom South Dakota homeschool families cherish.
